McLaurin’s Three-Year Contract Extension

Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders has agreed to extend his contract worth $96 million for three years. McLaurin spoke to the AP anonymously about the contract as the agreement had not been announced at that time. He initially refused to report to training camp as part of his contract negotiations, which led to him being placed on the physically unable to perform list. However, he has recently been assured to be available for the season opener position on September 7.

McLaurin was reaching the final year of his contract before signing this new agreement. He has topped 1,000 yards, playing five seasons in a row. During his rookie season, a specific injury limited his playing time and reduced his number of catches to below 80.

A third-round pick of Ohio State in 2019, McLaurin became a crucial part of Washington’s offense with quarterback Jayden Daniels leading the game. He caught 87 passes for 1096 yards last season to help the Commaders carry out the playoffs. This nearly doubled McLaurin’s career in touchdowns with 13 passes. Furthermore, he tied for the postseason lead with three more in the NFC championship.

The Chicago Bears Signed Up Quarter Back Tyson Bagent until 2027

The Chicago Bears signed Tyson Bagent as a backup quarterback through a two-year extension of contract until the 2027 season on 20th August. Chicago also signed the popular running back Royce Freeman by putting Deion Hankins on injured reserve.

Before this, Bagent played in four games, with two passes last season, with Caleb Williams commencing every game. However, Bagent managed to create a lasting impression over two seasons. Following a ground-breaking career at Division II powerhouse Shepherd University, Bagent made four starts and played five games. He also led Chicago to two wins and completed 66% of his passes for 859 yards with six interceptions and three touchdowns. Coach Ben Johnson proudly commented on his playoffs, “I've really been blown away by his approach from the spring to the start of camp to where we are now.”

The Colts Selected Daniel Jones as the Starting Quarterback over Anthony Richardson

Shane Steichen, the coach of the Indianapolis Colts, has chosen Daniel Jones as the starting quarterback for the new NFL season over Anthony Richardson. According to Steichen, the decision was partially based on maintaining the accuracy and consistency. Considering Richardson’s position as one play away from being required, the decision to take Jones as the season’s starter was made.

With this decision, Jones reclaims the job of starter that he lost with the New York Giants last season. After he asked for a release, he was granted it during the season. He first signed the release with the Minnesota Vikings and then joined the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent during the offseason.

These injuries were a major setback for this 23-year-old player during the first two NFL seasons of his career. Richardson was the 4th overall draft pick of 2023. With him in their team, the Colts are all set to play against the Miami Dolphins on the opening day of the season on September 7.

Jefferson is Back at Vikings Training

As NFL teams are gearing up for Super Bowl 2026, players are undergoing rigorous training to showcase their best. Amidst these preparations, Justin Jefferson has returned to the Minnesota Vikings for practice after recovering from a mild injury on his left hamstring. This injury kept him out of the loop for three-and-a-half weeks.

Jefferson was on the field for a light session on Monday since he suffered the injury on July 24 during his second practice of the training camp. Due to this injury, he participated in individual drills and did not engage in teamwork. The Vikings remained extra careful with his recovery as he suffered a more severe strain of his right hamstring during the 2023 season.

As Coach Kevin O’Connell commented on his return, “He's done such a good job with building his strength and doing the work with the medical team and the strength team that I think he feels like he's pretty darn close and ready to go.” Jefferson has the most receiving yards in the history of the NFL through his first five seasons.

Stafford’s Return to Rams Training Causes McVay to be Cautious

Matthew Stafford was seen practising with the Los Angeles Rams on 19th August, Monday. This marks the first workout of the quarterback with the team this preseason after being sidelined for a sore back. The 37-year-old Stafford spoke as the first-team representative during the session and afterwards never spoke to the media.

Head coach Sean McVay mentioned that it was too soon to talk about what the session means for Stafford’s status. He said, “I think that would be putting the cart way before the horse. I thought he did a good job today, and we had 26 plays of team (with Stafford), and he did a really nice job of managing the huddle. I thought he saw the field well. I thought he went where the balls would go, and there's some good competitive work on both sides today."

McVay consistently declined to state any specific timeline about Stafford’s availability for this season. After initially stating in July that his starting quarterback would not attend the first section of training camp, he has continuously refused to say anything about Stafford’s availability.

Meanwhile, the Rams were scheduled to open the regular season on 7th September against the Houston Texans.

Kerby Joseph Agrees to Sign Contract with the Lions

According to a new agreement with the Detroit Lions, Kerby Joseph will soon become the highest-paid safety in NFL history. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapport states that Joseph has agreed to a four-year $86 million deal, which sums up to $21.5 million per year. Before Joseph, Tampa’s Antoine Winfield Junior held the contract record of $84. 1 million over four years.

The Los Angeles Chargers Have Signed Jordan Petaia for the NFL’s IPP Programme

Looking at the NFL today, several changes in contracts and trading can be seen taking place. This year, in April, the Los Angeles Chargers signed Jordan Petaia, the former Australian rugby union player, as part of the NFL’s IPP or International Player Pathway programme. Petaia appeared in 31 Tests for Australia and played in two Rugby World Cups, and played for the club side Queensland Reds in Super Rugby.

The 25-year-old tight end showcased his capabilities at the University of South Florida last month after taking training in the IPP program for 10 weeks, and was heading to the States to participate in the NFL.

The IPP Programme provides experienced athletes the opportunity to participate in other sports, develop their skills, and secure a spot on an NFL roster.
